I am officially putting Deadly Light on hold.
I’m stalled. I could finish the scene I’m on now, but I’m unsure about where it would go from there. Reflecting back on the first section, I think a few small scenes are good but most of the rest of it is crap. I don’t want to think about high school or people in high school, which makes the current section impossible to write.
Maybe I’ll pick it up again someday.
Maybe not.

Deadly Light - Day 14
The second section is off to a reasonably good start. I managed to mentally map out more than I got the chance to write today, so I hope to be able to dig right into it again tomorrow.
Section two kicks off with 2105 words, with the book as a whole topping the 30k mark at 30,798.

Deadly Light - Section Two Preliminaries
Though I’m excited about the prospect of plunging into the latter two thirds of this novel without a firm road map, I nonetheless wanted to take a day to at least consider what path it might travel. I’ve worked out the first few steps, and on the morrow I hope to begin the walk.

Deadly Light - Day 13-ish - Section One done
I decided to spend my birthday writing. A 3699-word burst took me all the way to the end of Section One. At this point the novel stands at 28,691 words.
And here I enter terra incognita. I had an excellent idea of what happened in the first part of the book. After all, this is at least the third time I’ve written this same story. Now, however, arrives the question of what happens next. I’ve got some vague ideas, but the rest of the novel isn’t firmly plotted at this point.
In a way that’s exciting. I’m actually looking forward to writing purely from my imagination and experience, without using a previous draft or even a familiar structure as a crutch.

Deadly Light - Day 12
Today began at the top of the stairs and finished with Ben stepping into the box. I didn’t get much writing done early, but I got onto a streak after coming home from dinner.
Daily final: 24,523.

Deadly Light - Day 11
A good day today, which is a good thing because I suspect I may not get all that much done tomorrow.
The final total for the evening was 23,508. That’s 2532 for the day.

Deadly Light - Day Ten
Finally a nice, clean, solid day of writing.
Today I finished The Incident and the scene outside the movie theater. Now begins the transition to the final act of part one. Exciting stuff!
I finished the night at 20,976 words, nearly 3000 for the day.

Deadly Light - Day Nine-ish
Tonight I got in my first solid chunk of writing in days.
I’m currently working on The Incident, a part of the story that advances the plot significantly, a part of the story I actually like.
It’s late and I’m tired. I’ll mess with word counts later.

Deadly Light - Let's call it Day Eight
Not fully up to speed. Still not hitting my 2000 word per day pace. But at least kinda back into the swing of things.
If nothing else, at long last I finally finished the back story section that was giving me such fits. Tomorrow I begin the account of The Incident, which I expect will quicken the pace and stir my interest considerably.
Current word count total: 16,760.

Deadly Light - Days six, seven and beyond
Okay, I’ve massively screwed this up. During the holidays I got completely off track. It didn’t help that I’d reached a part of the tale that’s mostly character developing back story, and I didn’t really want to write it.
The last day I’ve got a record for was December 29. Somewhere around there I was somewhere around 12,209 words.
Since then I’ve been adding a sentence here and a sentence there. But until tonight (Monday, January 12) I never got in anything vaguely resembling a good writing session.
At least this evening I managed to get a little bit back on track. My daily total was somewhere just over 1600 words, making the current total 15,257.
I’m back in love with the story, though, so with luck I can keep building on this tomorrow.
